United Service Workers West (USWW) has 45,000 property service workers from San Diego to Sacramento. Our union unites workers across low wage service industries. Janitors, security officers, airport, residential, stadium and arena workers fighting for justice in our workplaces and our communities. These workers are the heart of our union and, through activism, the hope for tomorrow.

SEIU USWW has an External Lead Organizer position available immediately, based in Los Angeles.

Job Description
Almost 4,000 LAX workers providing skycap, wheelchair and, security, janitorial, ramp, baggage and cargo services through airline contractors have joined USWW, and continue in the fight for all LAX workers to win a union. LAX workers set the stage for SEIU’s national Airport Workers United campaign, where tens of thousands of airport workers are organizing across the country.

Working under the supervision of the Airports Coordinator, the Airports External Lead will work with staff and worker leaders to organize non-union LAX workers to take on multi-billion dollar airlines in the nation’s 3rd largest airport and continue the fight for a union for all airport workers.


  • Strong commitment to social justice and improving the lives of working people.
  • Ability to understand complex industries and imagine strategies to transform them,
  • Experience leading teams of workers and staff through non-union field campaigns.
  • Experience fighting private sector employers through aggressive field tactics.
  • Ability and flexibility to manage long and irregular hours.
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant work experience.
  • Ability to speak Spanish, Arabic or Tagalog a plus.
  • Must have car and insurance. Car allowance with proof of license, registration and insurance.
