Field Coordinator

Based in Houston, TX

The Texas Gulf Coast Area Labor Federation, AFL-CIO unites 60,000 members of 95 unions to advocate for a living wage, quality benefits, respect on the job, and protections for all working people on the Gulf Coast. The Field Coordinator develops field & mobilization programs that engage affiliated unions union, union members, and labor friendly voters in Houston area counties in the federation’s electoral, legislative, and organizing campaigns.

Job Opening: Field Coordinator


  • Electoral Field Organizing
  • Work with Executive Director, labor council officers, the Texas AFL-CIO, and union leaders to plan and implement electoral field operations, including voter registration, voter persuasion, Get Out The Vote, and other voter contact work
  • Craft scripts, create voter target lists from voter files, and cut turf
  • Coordinate labor’s COPE process to screen and endorse candidates
  • Recruit, train, and manage union release staff, volunteer, and temporary paid canvass teams
  • Design and oversee production and distribution of mailers, flyers, and other field materials
  • Write emails, utilize text apps, and design and post social media content that move members of unions and the general public to participate in ALF electoral, issue, and organizing campaigns
  • Create, track, and manage field budget
  • Represent ALF in meetings of partner electoral/civic engagement tables
  • Support Legislative, Issue, Organizing, and Contract Campaigns
  • Mobilize union affiliates and volunteers to help the federation and affiliated unions win issue, organizing, and contract campaigns
  • Design and build community engagement events, including town halls, trainings, and letter writing campaigns
  • Support union leaders’ efforts to engage, mobilize, and grow their membership with data and other means
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Commitment to changing the future of Texas by organizing the power of working families, particularly historically marginalized communities
  • Demonstrable experience leading field operations for union, community organizing, or political campaigns
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office/Google (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), a voter file system (Voter Action Network or Labor Action Network), graphic design apps, and digital communication tools
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and complete several projects on time simultaneously
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Team management
  • Ability to travel and work long and flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Familiarity with the structures and culture of the labor movement
  • Bilingual Spanish/English a plus
