Finance Director

Based in San Dimas, CA


POSITION SUMMARY:
This position manages and directs the activities of the Union’s Finance Department under the direction of the Executive Director. Responsibilities include management of accounts payable, accounts receivables, general ledger, organizational budget, payroll, employee reimbursements, member per capita, and Federal labor regulatory filings. Responsibilities require close interaction with the Union’s elected leadership, other departments, and elected Affiliate leadership.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES (include but are not limited):

  • Apprises the State Secretary/Treasurer and Executive Director of all major activities of the department and confers on deadlines and timelines.
  • Plans and directs the day-to-day activities of the Finance department and determines direction and priorities of activities.
  • Supervises the compilation and analysis of financial information to prepare entries to accounts such as the general ledger, oversees account reconciliation and documents business transactions.
  • Designs, supervises and/or conducts reports of financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital. Ensures that financial information complies with all federal and local regulations concerning non-profit organizations.
  • Directs and coordinates activities for formulation, monitoring and presentation of budgets. Conducts trend analysis of past and current budgets and expenditures
  • Responsible for the preparation of regular and special budget reports
  • Organizes and directs the year-end closing and tax reporting processes and the formulation of the reports and filings that accompany these processes.
  • Analyzes the operational effectiveness of financial controls and accounting processes and recommends and manages changes Directs and manages the payroll process and ensures that payroll checks, related deposits and all payroll reports are issued in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Directs and coordinates the accurate, timely filing of all required statutory/regulatory (LM) reports to the Federal government.
  • Works with UNAC/UHCP Affiliates to develop and implement Affiliate budgets; educates Affiliate Officers as to their fiduciary responsibilities; assists in development of Affiliate financial policies; conducts audits of Affiliate financial statements.
  • Performs related work as required/assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CPA or advanced degree in accounting, finance or business administration and a CPA certificate
  • Six or more years of experience in accounting and finance, preferably in a Union setting.
  • Four or more years of supervisory experience
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership and effectively plan, organize, and direct work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to learn new skills, technology, and programs as they evolve/emerge to support the organization’s goals
  • Ability to prioritize, problem-solve, multi-task, and complete projects effectively and efficiently
  • Ability to exercise judgement and decision making.
  • Ability to perform problem analysis and exercise problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with ability to communicate and interact effectively with Union leadership and staff, Affiliate leadership and Union members.
  • Salaried position; may require nonstandard work hours and/or weekend and holiday work.
  • Extensive travel may be required; current valid driver’s license.
