Excellent Opportunity with the International Association of Iron Workers

The Ironworkers Political Action League is looking for a Legislative Representative to help advance the interests of our 120,000 members. The Representative will support the international union’s legislative priorities on Capitol Hill.

Skills

  • The representative is expected to show initiative and motivation. He or she must be able to work well with a small team.
  • Knowledge and experience of the federal legislative process, and useful contacts on Capitol Hill.
  • Willingness to work in a genuinely bipartisan fashion.
  • Strong communication skills and emotional intelligence.

Location

  • This position is based in Washington, DC.
  • Some travel required.

Responsibilities

  • Advocate for ironworkers’ interests on Capitol Hill.
  • Evaluate, maintain and improve relationships with federal party committees, caucuses, and advocacy groups.
  • Cleary communicate policy issues in written and verbal form.
  • Research and track important bills.
  • Build and maintain relationships with elected officials and staff.
  • Identify priority incumbents and electoral targets.
  • Assist in budgeting for federal elections.
  • Prep and brief principals and local union officers for meetings and events.
  • Ensure day-to-day activities contribute to our union’s larger strategic goals.
