Organizing and Mobilization Coordinator

Based in Raleigh, NC

Description of Duties:
The Organizing and Mobilization Coordinator will help our state federation expand our support for organizing and will work with affiliated unions to grow their membership in new and in existing workplaces as well as help them strengthen their worksite mobilization structures. This position is based at the state federation office in Raleigh and requires someone to live in the Triangle area. Some specific duties of the Organizing and Mobilization Coordinator include:

  • Work with affiliated unions to identify needs around both internal and external organizing and develop a plan to meet those needs.
  • Staff our Executive Board Organizing Committee and the Organizing Roundtable.
  • Work with the AFL-CIO’s Center for Strategic Research to help research affiliate organizing targets and identify areas where multiple affiliates could collaborate.
  • Design and coordinate trainings on internal and external organizing strategies.
  • Work with unions to build and maintain year-round worksite mobilization programs that are capable of rapid response around contract fights, policy issues, and political campaigns.
  • Develop a team of organizing volunteers who can help with house calls, leafleting, etc.
  • Cultivate elected officials and community leaders as champions for organizing campaigns.
  • Work to increase support for federal, state, and local policies that will strengthen workers’ right to organize and collectively bargain.


  • Committed to the goals of the labor movement;
  • Experience working in politically sensitive situations with demonstrated diplomacy;
  • Prior experience with union organizing and worksite mobilization;
  • Knowledgeable of internal and external organizing methods and tactics;
  • Skilled in corporate strategic research methods;
  • Comfortable giving presentations and able to present information in an understandable, engaging way;
  • Familiar with adult learning techniques;
  • Able to exercise and demonstrate results oriented strategic thinking;
  • Excellent listening, interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills;
  • Able to multi-task and work in a high pressure, fast-paced environment;
  • Able to resolve conflicts while maintaining effective relationships;
  • Able to travel on a regular basis and to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Salary based on skills and experience. Benefit package includes health, dental, and vision coverage, and generous vacation and sick leave. The position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
