AFSCME Council 67 represents over 20,000 workers throughout the state including county and public school employees, correctional officers, clerical support staff and nurses. We organize in the workplace and fight for dignity, respect and a fair standard of living for all public service workers in MD.

We have an opening for a Union Organizer in Baltimore, MD.


  • Conducting broad and intensive outreach efforts to members and potential members of AFSCME Council 67.
  • Coordinating with existing workplace leaders on organizing plans.
  • Identifying and developing new workplace leaders to participate in organizing efforts.
  • Conducting job site/group meetings with members and potential members to discuss ongoing organizing efforts.
  • Communicating with members and potential members outside the workplace through home visits and phone calls.
  • Engaging workers in broader union efforts to bring pressure to preserve and expand vital public services.
  • Coordinating with members and potential members to gather information that is useful in identifying opportunities for membership growth and mobilization.
  • Coordinating with and involving community allies in organizing campaigns.
  • Conducting external and internal organizing.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Willingness to work long and irregular hours, including nights and weekends.
  • Capacity to work independently and with a team.
  • The ability to make and follow through on a work plan.
  • Sharp communications skills.
  • Basic writing and computer skills.
  • The ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Willingness to conduct house visits and site visits.
  • Previous experience in union or community organizing is desirable.
  • A demonstrated commitment to social justice is required.
  • A car and a valid driver’s license are required.
