Benefits Administration Specialist

Based in Lanham, MD


Large multiemployer pension plan in Lanham, MD is seeking a Benefits Administration Specialist to join our Retirement Services team in providing professional customer service to our members handling pre-retirement application and post-benefit inquires, and appeals, as well as applications and payments for retiree health coverage. Ideal candidate must have at least two years of experience with multiemployer benefit plans, particularly defined benefit and defined contribution plans.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Answer telephone or written inquiries from participants, pensioners, and surviving spouses regarding general questions related to rules and procedures for two retirement plans and one health plan.

All aspects of benefit applications which includes calculating benefit amounts and options and processing payments under the Electrical Workers Local No. 26 Pension Trust Fund (a defined benefit plan) and the Electrical Workers Local No. 26 Individual Account Plan (a defined contribution plan)

Write correspondence responding to benefit applications, benefit rules, and benefit procedures.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • At least two years experience with multiemployer benefit plans, particularly defined benefit and defined contribution plans
  • Detailed oriented, and able to handle multiple tasks concurrently, prioritize responsibilities and work independently
  • Ability to analyze, evaluate apply plan rules and procedures
  • Ability to follow set procedures and recognize and appropriately deal with deviations
  • Ability to adapt to administrative, plan and regulatory changes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate with members and Fund Staff at all levels in a professional manner
  • Strong computer skills, proficiency in MS Word and Outlook and working knowledge of Excel
  • Strong reading, writing, math, analytical, and logic skills

HOURS: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, weekdays

PROBATIONARY PERIOD: 120 working days

BENEFITS:
