Accounting Clerk II

Based in Washington, DC

The 1.3 million member United Food Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW), a powerful voice for working men and women, is seeking an Accounting Clerk II to provide accounting support to the Accounting Department by updating and maintaining the inventory of furniture and equipment for the International and Region Offices and by processing various disbursements for the Union.


  • Maintains inventory of fixed assets; adds purchases and removes items as authorized, records monthly depreciation entries and reconciles subsidiary accounts.
  • Responsible for entry of Active Ballot Club (ABC) disbursements into Cision software and transfer of transactions to the accounting system, Microsoft SL. Assists with entry of other disbursements into Microsoft SL.
  • Processes domestic and international wire transfers and interfund bank transfers through secure bank websites.
  • Performs periodic physical inventory of furniture and equipment in Fixed Asset System utilizing bar code system; assists with implementation of updated bar code system.
  • Prepares bank reconciliations for several accounts.
  • Enters and posts journal entries.
  • Files personal property tax returns in D.C. and various other jurisdictions.
  • Prepares credit applications for various departments.
  • Assists with implementation of paperless AP system.
  • Maintains various accounts payable, fixed asset and journal entry files; assists with scanning of Accounting Department documents.
  • Performs back-up for accounts payable desk and various accounts payable functions.
  • Maintains confidentiality of UFCW records and financial information.


  • Associate's Degree in accounting or knowledge equated to five years progressive accounting experience required.
  • Familiarity with Cision PAC software and Microsoft SL or similar complex accounting system is preferred.
  • Experience in reconciling accounts and maintaining subsidiary ledgers. Experience in using spreadsheet software.
  • Ability to navigate through database systems in order to retrieve, update and verify information.
  • Excellent analytical and mathematical ability.
