Legislative Coordinator

The Government Relations Division within the MTA is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Legislative Coordinator. Our ideal candidate will possess experience with administrative support, demonstrate the ability to be a team player and work independently, and is comfortable multitasking and managing competing priorities, with a passion for the legislative and political arena.

The duties for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Provide diversified administrative support for Government Relations Division.
  • Gather and disseminate information between divisions, politicians, government officials, members and staff.
  • Prepare reports, correspondences, charts, etc.
  • Assist in managing the legislative database.
  • Coordinate timely implementation of the Division's legislative and political strategies.
  • Convey information regarding legislative programs, activities and procedures.
  • Assist in preparing legislative and political updates.
  • Staff committee meetings.
  • Identify potential problems/issues and alerts the Director.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

To be successful in the role you will need:

  • 3- 5 years of experience in the legislative and political arena preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in political science preferred.
  • Familiarity with various legislative and political information sources a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience in working well with the public and staff.
  • Ability to foster and promote a diverse and inclusive work environment.
  • Strong MS office skills; demonstrated ability to create and maintain multiple Excel spreadsheets.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, strong attention to detail, and superior organization skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated high-level of dependability.
  • Ability to manage a diverse workload, handle multiple tasks simultaneously and be responsive to deadlines.
  • Demonstrated experience exercising discretion and judgment when dealing with political figures and staff.
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends.
