Organizers help workers form, build, and grow our union; assist workers leaders to enforce their union contracts; mobilize workers around worksite issues, politics, public policy, and other issues affecting the lives of working people; develop rank-and-file leadership among workers; and carry out all other programs of the union in the field.


  • Previous experience in union or community organizing is desirable, a demonstrated commitment to social & economic justice is required.
  • Willingness to work long hours, nights, and weekends;
  • Effective listening & communications skills;
  • Basic writing and computer skills;
  • The ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds;
  • Willingness to conduct house visits and site visits;
  • A car and a valid driver’s license are required.

Responsibilities Include:

  1. Recruiting workers to join the union;
  2. Fundraise for political action through the local union COPE program;
  3. Conducting broad and intensive outreach efforts to current or not-yet-union workers;
  4. Building one-to-one relationships with workers, educating them about the Union;
  5. Identifying and developing leaders to guide and lead their campaigns;
  6. Conducting individual and group meetings with members/workers to discuss and plan contract, political or organizing campaigns;
  7. Motivating individual workers and groups of workers to take worksite, legislative and general collective action;
  8. Engaging members/workers in broader union efforts to bring pressure to bear on the industry as a whole.
