Communications Associate

Based in Atlanta, GA


The Georgia AFL-CIO is seeking a Communications Associate to work part-time (15 – 20 hours a week) with their Campaigns Director to build the Georgia AFL-CIO’s presence through 2020. The Georgia AFL-CIO is the largest labor body in the State of Georgia, representing over 300,000 Union members and householders.

Communications
A candidate for this position must have the following skills, experience and qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Social Media tools (mainly Facebook and Twitter).
  • The ability to learn new programs for mass e-mailing and text messaging.
  • The ability to write press release and advisories, turn media out to events.
  • The ability to write LTE’s and Op-Ed’s as well also generate these same actions from union members.
  • The ability to write and assess questionnaires focusing on policy important to the AFL-CIO and its affiliates.
  • Message development skills and the ability to write talking points for use by Labor leaders.

Event Planning and Training

  • A general understanding of event planning and execution.
  • A general understanding of the use and operation of Audio and/or Visual equipment.
  • The ability to speak and present in front of a large audience.

General Skills and Requirements

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Docs
  • Ability to work long hours, early mornings, evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to travel, mostly within the State of Georgia but occasionally out of state for conferences and trainings.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete urgent tasks in a timely manner.
  • The ability to learn new things and new skills.
  • The ability to work with people from all different backgrounds and political ideologies.
  • A preferred candidate will have some experience working in the Labor movement.

This position reports to the President and Secretary-Treasurer of the Georgia AFL-CIO.

Location: Atlanta, GA

Compensation: Competitive hourly salary, DOE.
