California Reinvestment Coalition

California Reinvestment Coalition

Southern California Program Associate

Covering Southern California
(with occasional travel to San Francisco)

The California Reinvestment Coalition is seeking a passionate, talented Program Associate to lead our programmatic work in Southern California.

Our small team has a large-scale impact on banking and financial policies and practices - both across California and on the national stage. We've negotiated over $30 billion worth of investments for low-income communities in California. We're working directly with immigrant families to make sure that everyone in our state has access to economic opportunity and financial security. And we're not shy about taking on the rich and powerful; our advocacy has resulted in groundbreaking new corporate practices and public policies that promote economic justice.

CRC builds an inclusive and fair economy that meets the needs of communities of color and low-income communities by ensuring that banks and other corporations invest and conduct business in our communities in a just and equitable manner. We envision a future in which people of color and low-income people live and participate fully and equally in financially health and stable communities without fear of displacement, and have the tools necessary to build household and community wealth.

CRC is the largest statewide community reinvestment coalition in the country, with over 300 member organizations across California that provide services to tens of thousands of low-income residents. We have the network, experience, and expertise to effectively challenge the root causes of economic inequality affecting low-income, racial minority, rural, and immigrant households. CRC members include affordable housing developers, community development financial institutions, housing counseling agencies, fair housing organizations, financial capability organizations, small business technical assistance providers, legal services agencies, and other community-based organizations.

This position is based in the greater Los Angeles region and supervised by the Program Director.

  • Together with CRC’s Program Director develop CRC’s regional corporate and government policy for the Southern California region including the areas of Los Angeles, San Diego, San Bernardino, Riverside, and the Coachella Valley.
  • Develop and implement CRC’s leadership development and member engagement strategy for the region.
  • Implement CRC’s Here to Stay initiative in Southern California: Building Financial Security for Immigrants campaign, anti-displacement initiatives, community reinvestment bank strategies, and program to stop high cost loans.
  • Engage allies and partners in coalition in order to strengthen and grow a shared vision, with shared values and goals.
  • Collaborate with San Francisco-based staff to integrate member engagement and program activities into CRC’s overall organizational strategy.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

  • At least 5 years community, coalition, or labor organizing experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Ability to travel regularly within the Southern California region to Riverside County, Imperial County, San Diego County, and occasionally to the San Francisco area.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to manage and motivate individuals and groups, as well as lead and build strong collaborative relationships.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to speak and write persuasively.
  • Strong organizational abilities, including excellent attention to detail, ability to prioritize and multi-task, and ability to think strategically.
  • Ability to work independently and in a remote location from CRC’s main office in San Francisco.
  • Experience working with diverse groups of people and stakeholders and a high level of political astuteness.

  • Salary Range: $55,000-$65,000
