Membership Coordinator I

The Membership Department of the Writers Guild of America, West is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Coordinator I. This is a full-time, non-exempt (hourly) position with excellent benefits. The salary range for this position begins at $42,302 annualized, compensation is commensurate with experience.

Under the direct supervision of the Membership Administrator, the Coordinator I provides various administrative and clerical support services to the Membership Department. The Membership Department is responsible for administering the MBA worklist provision, facilitating membership admission, making appropriate status changes and maintaining member records.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Interprets and enforces the MBA’s work list provision by ensuring that all signatory companies employing writers submit weekly work lists.
  • Is able to explain clearly the work list provision to company contacts to make them aware of consequences for failure to provide.
  • Processes, enters data from and reviews weekly work lists submitted by signatory companies to ensure all writers employed are WGA members in good standing.
  • Interfaces with other Guild departments and outside sources to identify signatory companies that are employing writers.
  • Responds to requests by phone, email, etc., for information regarding membership requirements. Has full understanding of and capable of interpreting relevant provisions pertaining to individual writers’ circumstances in order to assess writers’ eligibility for membership.
  • Provides membership application materials to potential new members; tracks application submissions by non-members to ensure those individuals who meet membership requirements complete the application process in time for approval at next applicable board meeting.
  • Negotiates terms of monthly initiation fee payment agreements for applicable non-members eligible for Current membership.
  • Processes time-sensitive and confidential new member paperwork (applications, contracts, payments, etc.)
  • Collects and processes payments (by check, credit card, etc.) for membership status changes. Updates membership database with appropriate status changes at end of each month.
  • Send letters to inform members of status changes approved by the Board of Directors.
  • Provides extensive customer service by telephone. Is able to clearly explain membership eligibility requirements, work list requirements, membership category and status definitions, etc.
  • Processes member and non-member contact information changes and maintains member records.
  • Assists with member check-in tasks at off-site membership events.
  • Processes incoming department mail.
  • Other duties as required.

OCCUPATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The qualified applicant types at least 40-50 wpm and is computer literate in MS Word.
  • MS Excel experience is a plus.
  • Possess superior organizational and customer service skills.
  • Must have the ability to learn and comprehend basic minimum bargaining agreement provisions related to membership information.
  • Must have the ability to work with highly detail-oriented forms and electronically process high volume of data with accuracy and speed under a minimum of supervision.
  • The applicant must interact with people in a patient, courteous and professional manner.
  • Must be able to work overtime when necessary.
