Leaders in Action Field Coordinator
Member Programs and Participation Department

Reports To: Deputy Director
Location: Seattle, WA

Description: Organizers on our Leaders in Action team at SEIU 775 help workers build power and develop leadership by supporting worker action, and by mobilizing members and the community to support a pro-worker agenda.

As our Field Coordinator, you will support, coach and lead a team of talented field organizers.

This position is included in the Staff Union Bargaining Unit (classified in the Organizer (with Coordinator Development Plan) or Field Team Coordinator schedules) this is a full-time, salaried, overtime-exempt position based out of SEIU 775 HQ (Seattle)

Qualifications: Personal commitment to uniting the strength of long term care workers and improving the lives of working people. Proven success in organizing workers, leadership development and strategic campaign implementation.


  • Develop, and lead a highly skilled team of organizers in the areas of member leadership development and strategic field campaigns
  • Develop popular education styled curriculum and training modules for staff and member development.
  • Implement leadership program
  • Mobilize Members
  • Develop and adapt field plans
  • Participate in strategic planning with the leadership team
  • Coordinate with the Member Resource Center, Collective Bargaining and Employer Relations Team, Growth Department and Public Affairs Department
  • Duties as assigned for electoral, legislative and growth campaigns as required by the organization


  • A proven commitment to building a 21st-Century union movement, to risk-taking, and to the mission, vision, and values of SEIU.
  • 3-5 years organizing in a labor or similar environment, with a proven track record in successively more complex campaigns and organizing efforts
  • Strong personal planning, motivation, and time management skills and ability to work with people from other cultures and backgrounds
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to work independently as well as on a team
  • A drivers’ license, a car, automobile insurance, and a cell phone with NW regional coverage
  • Basic computer literacy and a willingness and ability to learn the organization’s technology tools
  • Willingness to work long, irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, including overnight travel and assignments.
    • Work irregular hours to be able to attend and prepare events and union activities.
    • Work irregular hours to meet workers when and where they work
  • Willingness and ability to travel, including frequent travel within the assigned turf and occasional travel throughout WA and other locations, including overnight travel, for days, weeks, or months at a time.
  • Coordinate with multiple levels of staff and members.
  • The ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds
  • Ability to see and hear effectively
  • May be required to walk for up to 3 hours at a time
  • Attend meetings: (driving, walking, sitting, standing, talking, and listening for up to three hours at time with intermittent breaks).
  • Mobilize and lead workers in grassroots political action: (driving, walking, sitting, standing, giving verbal and/or physical direction for up to three hours at a time).

Compensation: Salary and benefits are set by collective bargaining agreement; pay ranges from $67k to mid- $75k (actual offer based on experience). Benefits include fully employer-paid family health, dental and vision insurance, life insurance, a generous leave package, fully employer-paid pension (defined benefit plan), 401(K), car and cell phone allowance, mileage reimbursement, and other benefits outlined in the policies of SEIU 775 and the staff union contract.
