Project Manager/Administrative Assistant

Based in our San Dimas or Oakland, CA office
(some travel will be required)

The Alliance of Health Care Unions seeks experienced individuals to fill the position of Project Manager/Administrative Assistant. The jobs will be based in our San Dimas or Oakland, CA office. Some travel will be required.

The Alliance of Health Care Unions (Alliance) is a new labor federation made up of 22 local unions from nine International Unions representing over 49,000 workers at Kaiser Permanente. The Alliance has a Labor Management Partnership Agreement with Kaiser Permanente (KP). This partnership has been recognized as the most successful, longest standing labor management partnership in the United States. Traditional union-management labor relationships and tactics have been replaced with the principles of mutual respect, the use of interest-based problem solving to address disputes, and multi-union solidarity.

The Alliance recently completed negotiating a new national collective bargaining agreement. We are committed to continuing and improving that partnership with Kaiser Permanente to give union leadership the opportunity to engage in national, regional and local decisions of concern and interest to our members, to give workers a voice at work, improve patient care and service and make KP the best place to work.

The individuals that fill these positions will be self-directed strategic leaders who support regional and national Alliance staff and work to advance the strategy and goals of the Alliance at a national, regional and local level.

Project Manager/Administrative Assistant Position
Key Responsibilities

  • Project management of designated Alliance initiatives in learning, communication, and other program areas.
  • Support Alliance Directors on national programs with various projects, such as updating the website and other communications work, conference support as needed for program specific events, etc.
  • Manage calendars for Alliance staff as requested – either ongoing calendar management or for specific calls
  • Coordinate registration and attendance for events and conference.
  • Other administrative work as required
  • Work in a team with Operations Director and other Alliance staff on key activities.
  • Perform such other duties/assignments as may be needed


  • Demonstrated project management skills; ability to manage complex projects, prioritize and multi-task.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Excellent skills in the areas of organization, attention to detail, time management, ability to manage multiple tasks, define and set priorities and problem solve.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to use good judgment and maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Experience working in the labor movement, for advocacy groups, or political campaigns a plus.

Location: The Alliance is based in Southern California with an office in Northern California.

Salary: Based on experience. Comprehensive benefit package including defined benefit pension, health insurance, dental, paid vacation.
