Position: Political Digital Media Intern
Location: Washington, DC Start Date: Immediately
Duration: 6 months

The CWA Political Department of the Communications Workers of America (CWA) is seeking a creative, independent, passionate, and punctual Political Digital Media Intern. This intern will assist in creating digital components for campaign programs for CWA, a labor union representing roughly 700,000 workers in telecommunications, printing and news media, public service, healthcare, and other industries.

The Digital Media Intern should be someone who is interested in gaining hands-on experience in graphic design, motion graphics, videography/filming, video editing, and social media. As an intern, you will also learn to analyze key political issues and articulate solutions to the pressing problems of the day with digital media. There will also be room for the intern to have creative freedom over their own projects while keeping on-message with the department’s objectives. Above all, we hope that our interns will learn that firm ideology and activism in the democratic process yields real, meaningful (and potentially revolutionary) results for working people.

Internship duties include:

  • Creating digital assets for various digital platforms, content management, and developing visual assets for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Editing and shooting video, and assisting in the overall video production process.
  • Help execute our social media strategy, prepare images and any sharable content for social media (special emphasis on Instagram), schedule social media posts, and attend events (when possible) in order to promote them on social media.

Other responsibilities include, campaign research for the 2018 election cycle, assisting with preparation for meetings and events, and general office support.

Requirements: Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite; Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Premiere, and a basic knowledge HTML and CSS. An eagerness to learn, detail-oriented and reliable, excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment. Commitment to progressive politics and being generally awesome and able to work well with awesome people.

Compensation: $15/hr (up to 40-hours per week)
