POSITION OVERVIEW
The Data Analytics and Strategy Director leads the union's efforts to leverage data, technology, and analytics in support of organizing, representation, member engagement, political action, and operational excellence. Managing a team of data professionals, this role partners with union officers and department leaders to establish strategic priorities, improve data quality and reporting, develop innovative tools, and promote a culture of data-driven decision-making. The Director is responsible for ensuring that data systems, analytics, and training programs effectively support the union's mission and long-term growth.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leads and manages 32BJ’s data team, including budget management, resource allocation, and prioritization.
- Develop and maintain processes for evaluating, prioritizing, and managing requests for data, reporting, analytics, and technology projects.
- Serve as a bridge between technical staff and operational departments, ensuring data and technology solutions meet the needs of organizers, representatives, political staff, and members.
- Supervise the development of new tools for Union field and organizing operations.
- Improve, streamline, and expand data reports to align with organizational goals and decision-making needs.
- Develop processes, standards, and best practices to ensure consistent application and use of analytics.
- Build a robust training program and curriculum for users at various levels across the Union.
- Work closely with the IT Department on the development of new mobile applications and technologies.
- Provide analysis and reporting on key organizational priorities, including membership trends, organizing activity, member engagement, political participation, and other strategic initiatives.
- Monitor emerging trends in analytics, technology, artificial intelligence, and data management and assess opportunities for application within the Union.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- 10+ years of relevant experience, including at least 7 years of management experience.
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing data strategy in a complex organization.
- Strong data management and technology expertise, including the ability to translate operational needs into effective data architecture
- Experience leading cross-functional projects and working with vendors on software development, implementation, and technology initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and inspire staff, as well as oversee team growth.
- Demonstrated success improving data quality, reporting, governance, and organizational use of data.
- Strong hands-on experience with SQL, database development and maintenance, CRM platforms, and business intelligence tools.
- Experience in information management projects and programs, including implementing and leveraging enterprise application development methodologies.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Experience using AI models for wide range of projects, such as leveraging large data sets for analytics, chatbots and text translation
- A degree in Data Science, Data Analytics, or equivalent experience.
- Hands-on experience working for a labor union or other mission-driven organizations and a commitment to social and economic justice are strongly preferred.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
The salary range for this role is $145k – $155k, based on experience. 32BJ offers a generous benefits package that includes a fully employer-paid medical, dental and vision plan (for full-time employees and their qualified dependents) and retirement benefits, including a defined benefit pension plan and 401K. 32BJ offers paid time off including three weeks’ vacation, eleven holidays, twelve sick days, and after the first year of service, four personal days.
