Council Representative

Based in San Jose, CA

 

OVERVIEW
The Council is seeking for immediate hire a well-organized, detail-oriented individual to manage existing PLA contracts and provide support to the Executive Director. Council Representative utilizes accumulated expertise and must be able to exercise independent judgement in carrying out assigned duties with a minimum of oversight.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • At least one year of relevant office administrative experience
  • Intermediate to advanced computer literacy skills (proficiency in Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office Suites, Outlook)
  • Previous experience in the construction industry preferred (but not required)

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Administration of Project Labor Agreements (PLAs). 
  • Handle sensitive and confidential assignments with tact and diplomacy
  • Prepare training materials
  • Gather and compile contractor information 
  • Conduct and lead PLA Prejob meetings
  • Maintain data bases of contacts and project materials 
  • Develop relationships with Public Administrators and Construction Professionals
  • Organize Joint Administrative Committee meetings with the aforementioned organizations 
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues arising from PLAs

MINOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the Executive Director in routine as well as significant administrative details
  • Anticipate Executive Director’s concerns and independently handle or suggest resolution
  • Interpret Executive Director’s intentions or directives in their absence
  • Represent the Building Trades Council at various business, community and public meetings
  • Attend meetings as the Executive Director’s representative
  • Serve as liaison between the Executive Director and various agencies
  • Record weekly meeting minutes
  • Conduct research, gather and assemble data requiring judgement and discretion
  • Prepare testimony
  • Circulate PLA documents for Union signatures

COMPENSATION
Starting salary range of $65,000 – $80,000 commensurate with experience, with health stipend and retirement benefits.

The Council interacts with public agencies some of which conduct meetings after normal business hours. Candidates must have some flexibility to attend meetings when necessary.
