GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Director of Human Resources will serve on the Management Team as the Local's dedicated internal HR professional, with primary responsibility for the day-to-day administration and coordination of the Local's human resources functions.

The position will provide employees and managers with a consistent internal HR resource while developing and maintaining institutional knowledge of the Local's workforce, collective bargaining agreements, policies, practices, benefits, organizational history, and culture. The HR Director will take responsibility for setting, administering and evaluating legally compliant human resource policies, procedures and best practices.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
The Director is expected to have responsibility for areas such as:

  • Employee onboarding and offboarding, including I-9 and work authorization compliance;
  • Payroll and Benefits administration and coordination, including with payroll processing vendors, benefit plan administrators, and agencies such as DFML, Workers’ Comp, DUA;
  • Leave administration, including PTO, FMLA, PFML, workers comp and reasonable accommodations; 
  • Personnel records and HR documentation, including immigration and OSHA documentation;
  • Employee and manager HR support;
  • Advising of managers regarding supervision practices
  • HR policies, procedures, and compliance;
  • Coordination of recruitment and hiring processes;
  • Administration of employment-related policies, laws and applicable collective bargaining provisions, in consultation with the Chief of Staff and legal counsel
  • Day–to-day employee relations and workplace matters;
  • Investigations related to potential corrective action and alleged fair employment practices violations; 
  • Support to Chief of Staff in connection with collective bargaining and relations with the Staff Union;
  • HR reporting and recurring compliance activities;
  • Coordination with benefit providers, consultants, legal counsel, and other specialized external resources; and
  • Development and maintenance of HR procedures, calendars, records, and institutional knowledge.

REQUIREMENTS

  • SHRM-SCP, SPHR, IPMA-SCP or comparable senior level professional certification
  • At least five years of progressively responsible professional experience in human resources, labor relations or employment law with a strong background in employee relations, HR administration, compensation and benefits and regulatory compliance, preferably in a unionized setting
  • At least two years of supervisory experience preferred
  • Knowledge of employment law, workplace investigations and labor relations
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills, including the ability to independently write clear, concise memos, policies, and responses to complaints, grievances and employee inquiries 

COMPENSATION, BENEFITS & LOCATION:
This is a full-time management position based in Marlborough, MA, with some flexibility for local remote work. The salary for the position is $120,372 – $127,517, based on experience. Benefits include, at no cost to the employee: health insurance with FSA and HRA, dental insurance, short and long-term disability, a pension, an optional 401k, and generous paid time off.

Must have a driver's license, vehicle registration, and/or intent to purchase a vehicle. Our main office is located in Marlborough, MA, and the position will require travel around the state.
