Graphics and Communications Specialist
Based in Tukwila, WA
Office and Professional Employees International Union Local 8 is seeking applicants for a Graphics and Communications Specialist position. This position reports to the Local 8 Business Manager and is covered under a Collective Bargaining Agreement. The current office location is in Tukwila area with parking provided. The position is in the office 40 hours per week from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with some overtime around big events and contract bargains. This is an office with 7 office employee positions and 16 field staff positions.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This position involves creating newsletters, bargaining updates, fliers, and designing other communication using desktop publishing programs, as well as editing and proofreading correspondence. In addition, the position requires technical knowledge to create content for and maintain our website and interact with various digital platforms.
MUST BE ABLE TO PERFORM THE FOLLOWING DUTIES:
- Create publication quality fliers, brochures, leaflets, newsletters, announcements, campaign and training materials using a desktop publishing platform such as InDesign. Communicate and present ideas clearly and take feedback to develop engaging and accurate final product.
- Type, edit, and proofread a variety of correspondence and documents with accuracy and proficiency in Word, Outlook, Access, Excel and other software programs.
- Design and send email blasts to designated member lists using Constant Contact.
- Send bulk SMS messages through Action Network.
- Create digital bargaining surveys and votes using SurveyMonkey and Google Forms and digital forms using Jotform.
- Experience with HTML not required but appreciated.
- Post, update and create content for the OPEIU Local 8 website, hosted on WordPress, working with our web designer and field staff.
- Design artwork for Union swag maintaining and evolving brand consistency.
- Attend and take photos at large member events several times per year.
- Maintain and organize a large photo library on SharePoint.
- Create videos/photo slide shows for events.
- Stay up to date on design trends and learn new tools as needed.
- Maintain various emails lists.
- Coordinate larger mailings.
- Answer phones, direct callers to appropriate staff and take messages when needed as backup.
- Other duties as assigned.
Compensation for this exempt position includes placement on a wage scale with a starting wage of $39.14 per hour, a pension, a defined contribution plan with 10% employer contribution, fully paid family medical, dental, vision. The employer also provides life insurance, short- and long-term disability, and pays the employee portion of the WA PFML premium. Employees start at seven paid vacation days per year with 15 paid vacation days per year after one year of employment along with 15 paid holidays each calendar year. Bilingual employees may receive an additional $80/week differential.
