The labor movement is at an exciting juncture where there is unprecedented interest in class solidarity, collective action, and worker power. About UAW 4811 and Region 6
UAW 4811 is the largest local in the UAW, representing over 60,000 workers. We are part of UAW Region 6, the region of more than 120,000 active and retired UAW members across 9 western states including Alaska, Arizona, California, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington. We are the fastest growing region in United Auto Workers: Since Dec 2022, over 42,000 workers have won UAW representation in Region 6. 

UAW workers have also built mass participation contract campaigns – many escalating to strike action – that have resulted in numerous record contracts that set new standards for workplace rights and benefits. The massive success of these campaigns is thanks to a worker-led, movement-building approach to organizing that workers in UAW 4811 and Region 6 have been developing and refining over many years – one that prioritizes systematically developing worker leaders and high participation in every aspect of the campaign. 

About the Program
The training will be an intensive three-month full-time paid internship with the possibility of continuation depending on campaign needs. Participants will receive in-person training alongside other members of a cohort. 

Participants will be placed on worker-led campaigns within Region 6, including Arizona and Nevada.

The program will start at the beginning of January 2027 and run through March 2027, with the possibility for extension. Accepted applicants who can start earlier may be able to begin employment prior to January.

Desired Candidates
Qualified candidates will be able to demonstrate: 

• A commitment to economic, racial, and social justice, and solidarity with working people across diverse workplaces and sectors. 
• An interest in learning and developing worker-led organizing practices. 
• Strong attention to detail, time management skills, and ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative group.
• Willingness to accept, reflect upon, and incorporate feedback from lead organizers
• The ability to meet with workers in a variety of locations on your assigned campaign. This role will include talking with workers both one-on-one and in groups. 
• Willingness to travel if not located in the area of the assigned campaign
• Ability to work some evenings and weekends as campaign needs require

Pay and benefits
Participants will be paid bi-weekly at about $3,200 (equivalent to $83,285 annually). Healthcare benefits are also available for the three months. If long distance travel is necessary, gas/airfare, lodging, and per-diems are paid.
