Lead External Organizer

SALARY RANGE: $72,904 – $120,321 annually
REPORTS TO: Organizing Director

ABOUT UFCW LOCAL 770
UFCW Local 770 stands 30,000 members strong, building power in healthcare, retail drug, grocery, meatpacking, and cannabis. We are seeking a Lead External Organizer to help workers build strong committees, win union recognition, and advance first-contract campaigns.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Lead External Organizer is responsible for executing key components of external organizing drives. Working closely with the Organizing Director, this position leads, supervises, and develops members of the organizing team while building worker leadership and campaign structure.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Identify, recruit, train, and develop worker leaders through one-on-one communication.
- Train workers to organize their coworkers and build sustainable workplace leadership.
- Build and maintain worker organizing committees; organize and lead committee meetings.
- Develop worker leadership, campaign structure, organizing plans, and strategic priorities.
- Oversee organizing drives, including card-check agreements and representation campaigns.
- Supervise, coach, and develop Organizing Interns, Member Organizers, and Organizers-in-Training.
- Monitor campaign activity and progress, identify challenges, and help inform campaign strategy.
- Communicate clearly with the Organizing Director and organizing team regarding developments and next steps.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- At least two years of experience as an external organizer.
- Experience running National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) elections.
- Demonstrated commitment to worker leadership development and organizing the unorganized.
- Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and team communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while meeting firm deadlines.
- Ability to lead and collaborate effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to work respectfully with workers and members from diverse and multicultural backgrounds.
- Willingness to work long and irregular hours, including weekends, as needed.
- Willingness and ability to travel as needed; a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle are required.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
The salary range is $72,904 – $120,321 annually, based on experience. The position includes excellent health and retirement benefits.
