AFT-Kansas is hiring an Administrative Assistant / Organizing Assistant to support our work with educators, public employees, healthcare workers, higher education workers, and local unions across Kansas.
This position will be based in the United Teachers of Wichita office and will help keep day-to-day operations organized while supporting member communication, events, meetings, outreach, and organizing projects.
The right person will be dependable, detail-oriented, comfortable working with people, and committed to public education, workers’ rights, and strong unions.
What You’ll Do
- Help manage daily office operations, phones, email, supplies, files, and member communication.
- Support membership records, contact lists, forms, and basic database updates.
- Assist with meetings, trainings, events, and member activities, including scheduling, materials, setup, and follow-up.
- Create simple flyers, emails, graphics, forms, and member-facing materials.
- Help with website and social media updates as needed.
- Support member outreach, recruitment, organizing projects, and campaign/event logistics.
- Work with AFT-Kansas staff, local leaders, and members to keep projects organized and moving.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong organization and follow-through.
- Good written and verbal communication.
- Comfort working with members, staff, leaders, and community partners.
- Basic skills with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Canva, email, and spreadsheets.
- Ability to handle confidential information with care.
- Commitment to public education, labor values, and the right of working people to have a voice.
- Experience in a school, union, nonprofit, campaign, office, or community organization is helpful but not required.
- Relevant experience may substitute for formal education.
Schedule and Work Expectations
This is a full-time position based in Wichita. Most work will take place during regular business hours, with occasional evening or weekend support for meetings, trainings, events, or organizing activities.
