Summary:
The Labor Relations Consultant will support the Palm Beach County Classroom Teachers Association by identifying, recruiting, and developing worksite leaders and strengthening member engagement across assigned worksites. This position works closely with Faculty Representatives and worksite leadership teams to organize and develop CTA EBC committees, support contractual obligations, and implement worksite campaigns related to contract enforcement, internal organizing, legislative priorities, and political action.
The successful candidate will assist worksite leaders in establishing and maintaining effective communication systems, including bulletin boards, meetings (virtual and in-person), newsletters, email communications, and phone trees. Responsibilities also include mentoring and supporting worksite leaders in representational duties, grievance handling, meetings with administrators, and processing complaints, grievances, and hearings within required timelines.
The Labor Relations Consultant must maintain current knowledge of applicable collective bargaining agreements, statutes, policies, and labor relations practices relevant to the position. This role also leads membership recruitment and engagement efforts through school visits and other outreach strategies designed to identify and recruit prospective members.
Job Description:
- Identify, recruit and develop worksite leaders (i.e. CTA reps, EBC/PRC, points of contact).
- Provide ongoing support/trainings to worksite leaders as necessary (i.e. representation, grievances, administrative meetings, membership).
- Cycle visits to all assigned schools.
- Communicate with members regarding worksite-specific issues (i.e. organizing, contract-specific issues, membership).
- Process complaints and grievances/hearings in accordance with timelines.
- Demonstrate knowledge of CBA, statutes, and policies.
- Serve as staff liaison/consultant to assigned committees and projects; assist other committees as directed.
- Report to Executive Director on activities at worksites, grievances, etc.
- Attend meetings as directed or approved by the Executive Director.
- Coordinate activities and take complete responsibility for assigned projects as assigned by the Executive Director.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree; an advanced degree is preferred. Candidates should have 3 – 5 years of experience in a leadership or staff role, with demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas: member advocacy and support, organizing and membership development, professional development, organizational development, leadership or staff development, and collective bargaining.
The candidate must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as effective interpersonal and relationship-building abilities. Experience working with labor organizations, unions, or nonprofit associations is preferred.
Compensation:
Salary and benefits are based on the negotiated agreement with the Palm Beach County Classroom Teachers Association and the Palm Beach County Classroom Teachers Association Staff Organization.
