Membership Service Director

Job Title: Membership Service Director, Professional Staff
Supervision: PCTA-PESPA Executive Director

Unit Description: 
The Pinellas Classroom Teachers Association is the recognized bargaining agent and legal representative for 7400 teachers 2400 educational support professionals through Pinellas Educational Support Professionals Association. Currently there are approximately 5000 members in the two organizations. PCTA & PESPA are innovative locals with a strong tradition of member advocacy and services. The Association was a pioneer in collective bargaining in the South and has engaged in substantial organizational and educational reform. 

Summary: 
The Membership Service Director reports to the PCTA-PESPA Executive Director and assists in the day-to-day operations and programs of PCTA and PESPA. Provides representation and support to members as needed. Supports and gives consultation and assistance to elected leaders and members in the areas of bargaining, contract administration/ grievance adjudication, business management, membership development, leadership and organizational development, internal and external communications, governmental and political advocacy, member and human rights, education reform, and other areas of interest or concern to the organization and its members.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience; Master’s Degree preferred. The position requires familiarity with education-employee union work as member-leader or staff. The successful applicant must have at least two years as staff or elected governance, comparable experience preferred; including bargaining, contract administration/grievance adjudication, business management, membership development, leadership, and organizational development, internal and external communications, governmental and political advocacy, member, and human rights, and education reform. Experience working with local staff and programs.

Duties, General:

  • Answer members questions via email, text, phone.
  • Conduct regular worksite visits.
  • Work with Board personnel to resolve member issues.
  • Participate in strategic planning and implementation.
  • Plan and implement activities and incentive programs for members.
  • Represent members in disciplinary meetings.
  • Facilitate PCTA and PESPA committee meetings.
  • Attend and present at FR and AR council meetings.
  • Participate in bargaining meetings and planning.
  • Represent PCTA and PESPA on District committees.
  • Assist with publications.
  • Other duties, but not limited to:
  • Assist in coordinating unit elections.
  • Attend PCS new employee events.
  • Plan content and attend rep school.

Duties, Specific:

  • Develop Organizing campaigns for PCTA and PESPA around grant initiatives.
  • Plan, coordinate, and staff organizing events for membership growth.
