The Amazon Division engages all levels of the union around six core platforms – member engagement, worker and community engagement, antitrust enforcement and policy reform, and global solidarity – to build worker power at Amazon and throughout the goods movement industry in which Amazon is the dominant entity.

Position Description: The Staten Island Coordinator’s role is to work with Teamsters Joint Council 16 and Locals in the New York market area to engage members on the importance of the campaign and organizing, identifying, and recruiting members to join the volunteer organizing committee. The Organizer is responsible for training, mentoring, and developing Local Volunteer coordinators to ensure they effectively carry out their responsibilities. This role works closely with Joint Councils, Local unions, and volunteer coordinators to engage members around campaign priorities and to identify and recruit participants for volunteer organizing committees. The organizer regularly presents campaign updates and conducts member outreach through surveys and conversations at shop meetings, general membership meetings, and other union events. In addition, the role coordinates and leads trainings to strengthen the skills, capacity and commitment of volunteer organizing committees, while also providing ongoing one-on-one and small group coaching on core organizing skills such as phone banking, canvassing, and campaign planning. 

Occasional travel is required. The position is based in Staten Island, New York. Candidates must be able to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends, as necessary, to meet the needs of the campaigns.

Salary and Benefits: Starting salary range is $90,000 plus FICA reimbursement. The Teamsters Union headquarters offers a robust benefits package including a 100% employer-paid health & welfare plan, pension, 401(k), FSA, and vacation & sick leave.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least four years of work experience in a position that involves building worker power, planning and executing campaigns and other related matters.
  • Proven ability to lead, train, and mentor workers and rank-and-file volunteer organizers.
  • Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills. 
  • Possess ability to effectively manage multiple projects and workflow.
