Representative Organizer and Negotiator

Position Summary
The Union of American Physicians and Dentists (UAPD) is seeking a seasoned Representative Organizer and Negotiator to champion our members' rights across dental and medical workplaces in Washington State. This is a high-impact, field-based role. You will be the face of the union for both organized and unorganized healthcare professionals throughout the state.

Decisions made by a Representative Organizer and Negotiator directly shape the professional lives of medical providers. You will design and lead organizing campaigns, negotiate collective bargaining agreements at the table, develop member leadership, and build power for healthcare workers at every level.

Job Functions

  • Design and execute organizing campaigns to win union recognition at unorganized dental and medical practices, including committee building, issue identification, and NLRB election preparation
  • Negotiate collective bargaining agreements and enforce contract provisions on behalf of members
  • Lead contract negotiations as chief negotiator or co-negotiator, including preparation of proposals, costing of economic packages, and drafting of contract language
  • Research and analyze wages, benefits, and working conditions to develop strong bargaining proposals and counter-proposals
  • Coordinate with members and stewards to identify bargaining priorities and build consensus around negotiating goals
  • File, investigate, and resolve grievances; prepare cases for arbitration when necessary
  • Conduct regular worksite visits across all shifts; build trust and relationships with members, stewards, and potential members
  • Recruit, train, and develop shop stewards and member leaders to sustain an empowered steward network
  • Organize rallies, demonstrations, and direct actions; provide strike support and pressure campaigns as needed
  • Represent the UAPD in coalition and community activities, including with other labor organizations and healthcare advocacy groups in Washington State
  • Participate in lobbying at state and local levels in Olympia and federally; mobilize members around the union's political action program
  • Produce written materials including newsletters, training guides, press releases, and campaign literature
  • Maintain accurate records, expense reporting, and activity logs in a timely manner

Minimum Requirements
Union experience: 5+ years as a union organizer or representative
Labor law knowledge: Familiarity with NLRA, FLSA, ADA, FMLA, WLAD, and relevant Washington State labor statutes
Organizing track record: Demonstrated success running internal and external campaigns
Negotiation skills: Proven experience as lead or co-negotiator on collective bargaining agreements; skilled in proposal drafting, economic costing, and contract language
Communication: Strong written and verbal English; bilingual skills highly desirable
Travel: Valid driver's license, insured vehicle, and availability for statewide and overnight travel throughout Washington

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in healthcare, dental, or medical professional environments
  • Experience leading or mentoring junior organizers
  • Knowledge of Washington State-specific regulations including WAC, and L&I rules
  • Experience with political action committees and Washington State legislative or electoral campaigns
  • Proficiency with digital tools including databases, email platforms, and virtual outreach

Physical Demands
This role requires extended worksite visits, home visits, and canvassing throughout Washington State, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. The ability to lift up to 25 lbs and drive long distances is required. Independent judgment and self-motivation are essential, as much of the work is conducted with minimal direct supervision.
