Staff Attorney
Based in Lombard, IL
Our Union represents public sector employees in various industries in the Chicago and surrounding suburbs. We are dedicated to maintaining our long-standing commitment to excellent service to our members. We are seeking a highly motivated Attorney to join our legal department to assist and advise on legal issues relating to traditional labor law. The right person for this position must be a team player with collaborative interpersonal skills. This individual must display proven ability to thrive in an environment with frequently shifting priorities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Represent members in pre-disciplinary hearings, administrative interviews, interrogations, arbitration hearings, labor board hearings/matters before the Illinois Labor Relations Board (representation petitions, DFR, Unfair Labor Practice Charges), administrative boards (i.e., Cook County Sheriff’s Merit Board)
- Represent the Local in collective bargaining negotiations and mediations
- Review documentation upon request from Union representatives, including but not limited to, settlement agreements, new Employer policies/procedures, resignation agreements, last chance agreements, memorandum of understanding and newly negotiated collective bargaining agreements
- Represent members in State and Federal Court on various legal matters
- Assists in various miscellaneous legal matter
Minimum Education Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school required
- Entry Level to 5 years of experience in litigation, labor, or alternative dispute resolution
- Must be licensed and in good standing to practice law in the State of Illinois or pending admission to the Illinois Bar or eligible for reciprocity to the Illinois Bar

- Experience and training necessary to enforce contracts and conduct contract negotiations;
- Ability to work well with a wide variety of people

- Ability to make decisions and pivot quickly and fluidly, think practically in solutions-oriented manner
- Strong analytical capabilities and judgment
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Must have reliable transportation
Technical Skills:
- Thorough knowledge of MS-Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Internet Explorer, and Outlook.
