SEIU Healthcare 1199NW

Research Analyst or Senior Research Analyst

Based in Kent, WA

SEIU Healthcare 1199NW is building towards a world where all people have access to safe, quality healthcare. With the consolidation of corporate forces, even more power must be harnessed for healthcare workers to win the justice they, their families, and the communities they serve, deserve.

Racial justice is our north star; we know that we cannot have gender justice, economic justice nor environmental justice without it. To achieve a healthcare environment safe and affirming for all BIPOC people, all trans and gender-nonconforming people, all women, all disabled people, and everyone in Washington and Montana, we must leave no power on the table.

Within SEIU Healthcare 1199NW’s research department, this position will support the development of our capacity to engage in at-scale corporate campaigning. The work is focused on strong, accurate analysis of employers and their industries for member-leaders, officers, staff, and other audiences as we win unions and advance workplaces through bargaining.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct strategic research including compiling, analyzing, summarizing, and presenting analysis on industries, companies, individuals, and issues to forward the union’s program.
  • Collaborate with union staff and members.
  • Develop and implement a weekly work plan.
  • Perform other duties as required to support the union and its mission.

Job Qualifications:

  • Strong commitment to and embodiment of racial, social and economic justice
  • Understanding of power and how it works in our society, politics, and economy
  • Understanding of unionization, collective bargaining, and of the role of organized labor in the workplace and in the industry
  • Financial and public policy analysis skills
  • Strong writing and presentation skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team, share leadership, share credit and collaborate
  • Ability to both manage complexity and simplify challenging problems
  • Willingness to work long and irregular hours as needed
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • You must have a valid WA driver’s license and a car.

Direction and Decision Making: This position reports to the Assistant Director of Research and is located within the Research Department. This is a salaried position that must live in Washington or Montana, and will occasionally attend workshops, conferences, bargains and other in person obligations.

Employment Term: This is a permanent position, with a six (6) month initial probationary period.

Compensation: Competitive salary and excellent benefits as set by collective bargaining agreement. Research Analyst salary range is $78,000 to $95,029.47 (depending on experience); Senior Research Analyst receives an additional $750 quarterly.
