Certified Mental Health Counselor
Full Time

Based in the Seattle/Des Moines, WA office

 

The United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 3000 is seeking a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who will help build a different kind of mental health infrastructure to support union members and their families. We are seeking a candidate who believes in the power of collective action. This person will be responsible for supporting our staff and members mental health. We are seeking a candidate who can use the concept of collective action and apply it to expanding support for mental health. We seek someone who has done group therapy and believes that all of us can provide mental health support with the right training, just like CPR. Duties may include leading group therapy, doing worksite visits with reps to identify members in need, and helping current members navigate current resources. The position requires willingness to work long and irregular hours, strong listening, written and oral communication skills.

Requirements Include:

  • Certified or Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Washington
  • Master’s degree in social sciences and two years’ supervised experience working with individuals with mental illness
    • 3+ years of clinical work with patient care/case management
  • Experience in crisis management and working with people experiencing mental health crises is crucial
  • Previous experiencing working with the LGBTQ+ community and communities of color a plus
  • Previous experience dealing with violence in the workplace
  • Previous experience dealing with bullying
  • Previous experience in group therapy

Responsibilities may include, but not limited to the following:

  • Provide specialized crisis intervention and short-term treatment services to union members experiencing an acute behavioral health crisis, with the goal of crisis stabilization within the least restrictive setting
  • Ensures that all services delivered are consistent with compassionate, respectful, professional, and recovery-oriented services
  • Ensures completion of appropriate screening and linkage to Next Day Appointments, Children's Crisis Outreach and Response System, Mobile Outreach Team, Geriatric Regional Assessment Team, Designated Mental Health Professionals and other outreach services for callers requesting those services
  • Provides professional consultation to callers regarding access to the mental health system, crisis intervention, suicide intervention and other mental health topics as needed
  • Ensures that all calls are documented accurately and completely
  • Must be able to consistently identify, address and monitor problems, while offering/implementing solutions within acceptable interpretation of departmental policies and procedures
  • Must be able to work collaboratively as a teammate, as well as independently

Skills:
Proficiency with the following tools:

  • Professional communication: in-person, meetings, email, telephone, etc.
  • Ability to work effectively in a stressful environment
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strength in Word, Excel and Outlook are highly necessary
  • Position requires strong problem-solving, crisis management, multitasking and organizational skills
