PURPOSE: The Integrated Campaign Coordinator will work with the Innovation Learning Center (ILC) Director to develop and lead the ILC's efforts to advance and promote a learning culture within SEIU that is diverse and inclusive. As part of the ILC's work to strengthen the transmission of information and learning throughout the union, the Integrated Campaign Coordinator will also oversee the redesign of teach.seiu.org, an internal digital platform for sharing best practices and fostering learning communities among SEIU staff that serves as the backbone for unionwide knowledge transmission.

  • Lead the development and/or enhancement and implementation of knowledge and learning strategies, systems and programs that foster a culture that encourages and supports continuous staff learning, critical thinking, and risk-taking with new ideas; allows mistakes and values employee contributions; and learns from experience and experiment.
  • Design and establish knowledge management and evaluation systems to ensure continuous improvement of quality, inclusion and equity of programs and information.
  • Ability to identify knowledge gaps and needs and collaboratively identify solutions, tools, and approaches to gain and share knowledge. Develop and implement systems to identify, gather and disseminate best practices and lessons learned across the union for incorporation into day-to-day activities.
  • Work closely with divisions, departments and local unions to shape the strategic approach to knowledge and learning.
  • Provide support for the establishment and growth of learning communities across the union, including workshops, one-on-one guidance and troubleshooting. Work with other ILC staff to nurture a community of innovation practitioners and champions.
  • Document and share learning to ensure requirements, lessons learned, and best practices for products, events, and other knowledge management activities are clear.
  • Strategically disseminate findings, knowledge and guidance through various avenues, including but not limited to: communities of practice, virtual or on-site knowledge-sharing workshops, conferences, and webinars.
  • Publish reports, highlight success stories, communicate program impact/overall results.
  • Think innovatively to identify and share more creative, efficient and effective ways to engage audiences and facilitate sharing and collaboration.
  • Serve as project technical lead on all matters related to knowledge management.
  • Advise, direct, and build on the vision of teach.seiu.org as a means of fostering the sharing of knowledge and lessons learned within the union and an overall culture of learning.
  • Actively oversee and manage the redesign of teach.seiu.org throughout the entire project lifecycle (from discovery to launch). Work with stakeholders, users, and vendors to ensure the delivery of a high-end digital platform that helps accelerate learning and sharing among SEIU locals and the International Union.
  • Oversee the growth and quality of engagement on the site, including but not limited to community management and monitoring, analysis of user and site data, and continual optimization of user experience. Work with local unions and within the International Union to curate materials on teach.seiu.org.
  • Perform other duties as required to support the department and its mission.

CONTACTS: Includes International Union staff, International Union Directors and Deputy Directors, local union leaders and staff, staff of other non-SEIU unions, vendors, and consultants.

DIRECTION AND DECISION MAKING: This position reports to the Director of the Innovation & Learning Center (ILC) and works with minimal supervision. A high level of judgment, ability to take initiative and work independently is required. Must be able to handle multiple priority projects simultaneously and meet established deadlines.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university; at least 3 to 5 years relevant experience; or a combination of relevant educational work experiences that would provide for the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of staff and elected officers.
  • Experience and passion for developing, implementing and reinforcing organizational culture initiatives, including the development of programs and resources to improve learning, sharing, and transparency.
  • Demonstrated success in influencing and driving organizational change through formal and/or informal leadership.
  • Experience in establishing effective partnerships within and outside the organization. Experience managing vendors and overseeing internal projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong motivation and ability to continually and quickly develop skills related to the use of rapidly changing technology and community management best practices.
  • Ability to lead and direct project resources with confidence, identify and act on project issues and risks, seeing each through to its proper resolution.
  • Excellent written, oral and presentation skills. Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, in front of large groups and interpersonally.
  • Ability to manage relationships in complex political and organizational situations.
  • High level of individual motivation, ability to set and meet clear deadlines. Comfortable learning and adopting new technology, software and/or platforms.
  • Knowledge and understanding of labor unions, including knowledge of local union operations, union organizing, and political and advocacy campaigns, preferred but not required.
  • Experience maintaining websites and/or social media for an organization, including content development, monitoring, and community management is helpful but not required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position is based in SEIU's Washington, D.C. office. Work is generally performed in an office setting. Extended hours and travel may be required. Ability to work effectively with a team that includes remote colleagues via phone, Zoom/Google Hangout, and other digital communications.
