The CMRJB represents workers throughout the Midwest within many different industries. Our members have fought for and achieved high standards for private sector workers within their industries while continuing to fight for higher standards for unorganized workers.

The CMRJB strongly believes in the development of member leaders through education and participation. We are committed to representing and assisting members as they fight for decent jobs that provide good wages and benefits along with respect and dignity in the workplace.

Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):

  • Help develop and implement strategies to involve union members in activities that build the local union's capacity to effectively represent employees in its jurisdiction, including internal communication and member mobilization.
  • Recruitment and training of members who can assist in solving problems on the job through contract enforcement and direct action.
  • Lead negotiator in bargaining contracts for assigned local unions.
  • Train and work with local union leadership to ensure effective meetings, sound fiscal practices, and good internal communication.
  • Preparation and presentation of grievances and arbitration cases as the principal union advocate.
  • Prepares leaflets, bulletins, etc. for communication with membership.


  • Willingness to work long hours, nights, and weekends as necessary
  • Willingness to travel as necessary
  • Must have a strong commitment to social justice and building the labor movement.
  • Experience and training necessary to conduct contract negotiations.
  • Ability to work well with a wide variety of people.
  • Proven ability to organize and plan work.
  • Leadership skills to educate and motivate members.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in complex situations.
  • Strong public speaking skills.
  • Ability to write well and to author letters, newsletters and contract language.
  • Knowledge of or ability to acquire computer skills
  • Bi-lingual is a plus
  • Reliable transportation
