Administrative Assistant (part-time)
Congress Watch Division

Public Citizen is a national, non-partisan, public interest group with more than 500,000 members and activists. The Congress Watch division conducts public education campaigns and advocates before the Congress and administrative agencies on money in politics, open government, corporate accountability, financial regulation, budget and taxes, public health and safety, and access to justice.

The Administrative Assistant performs all administrative tasks relating to the functioning of the Congress Watch division, which includes interacting with the public and the organization’s supporters, program staff within the division, administrative and other staff throughout Public Citizen, and otherwise assisting with the smooth operation of the Congress Watch department.


  • Serve as liaison to the accounting department with regard to billing materials, expense reports, and check requests.
  • Edit and publish content to the Congress Watch sections of the Public Citizen website.
  • Assist in hiring Congress Watch interns by advertising positions, processing applications, and, in some instances, communicating with applicants.
  • Assist in responding to emails and telephone calls from people seeking policy background or other information.
  • Complete various tasks for the department, such as attending events or hearings, delivering materials to Congressional offices, drafting blog posts or creating social media graphics.
  • Assist in accessional large mailing, copying, filing, or similar projects.
  • Provide scheduling support for the Vice President of Legislative Affairs.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Google Drive. Background in WordPress and social media helpful. Willingness to learn new computer tools and programs.
  • College degree or 2 years of office administrative experience.
  • Ability to communicate via phone and email with people of different backgrounds.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.


  • Monday – Friday, part-time (20–25 hours per week).
  • May start as soon as Monday, March 2.
