Revolutionary Labor Union Seeks Literature Department Coordinator / Administrative Assistant

The Industrial Workers of the World was one of the first labor unions in the United States to organize all workers – regardless of their ethnicity, gender, immigration status, or job. We have been growing in the last 20 years, with high profile organizing campaigns, and a younger generation of members who want to organize in their workplace for better conditions, better pay, and a greater voice in how their work is done.

General Headquarters in Chicago is the administrative office for our union in North America. We process union dues, pay the union's bills, mail out the union's members only newsletter, assist in organizing campaigns and with the union's communications.

Position will involve – managing and updating processing merchandise orders, restocking inventory, managing QuickBooks and reconciling every month, answering phone calls, faithfully representing the union and its positions to the public, some data entry, some paper cutting, stuffing envelopes, and other miscellaneous office tasks.

Qualified candidates will have: an experience in organizing, a solid grasp of labor history, a commitment to anti-oppression workplaces, an understanding of and willingness to learn computer and web technology, knowledge of communications best practices.

Skills needed:

  • Passion for the labor movement and social justice.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks at once.
  • Patience and good listening skills.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Good organization skills
  • Goal-Oriented, Self-starting and ability to grow and expand the Department
  • Experience with civicrm, QuickBooks, Magento, WooCommerce, WordPress preferred but not required.
  • Ability to read/write/speak English is necessary, but ability in Spanish and other languages is a positive.

This is a full-time salaried position (30-40 hours).
This position is based in Chicago.
