UFCW Local 2013 is a union of 14,000 members working in food manufacturing, warehousing, and health care in the New York City metropolitan area. Our Brooklyn-based union represents a majority immigrant workforce that is the backbone of the city. We are committed to improving the lives of working people.

Major Responsibilities

  • Coordinate external organizing efforts, with an emphasis on grass-roots, community-based campaigns
  • Assist with internal organizing efforts, including contract campaigns, member education, strike support, etc.
  • Identify and develop leaders and activists, worker committees, and member organizers
  • Articulate the union’s vision, motivating workers to take action
  • Work with the Local’s leadership and staff on strategic research, communications, and the political and legal aspects of campaigns
  • Build relationships with community-based and faith-based organizations, labor unions and worker centers, as well as elected officials

Primary Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of experience in union and/or community organizing
  • Experience with campaign planning and execution
  • Ability to research, analyze data, and think strategically
  • Familiarity with collective bargaining/contract negotiations
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • Commitment to workers’ rights, and social and economic justice
  • Fluency, if not high proficiency, in English and Spanish preferred
  • Willingness to work long, irregular hours and travel as needed
  • Proficiency in social media
  • Basic computer skills/ knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
