Principal Purpose of Job: Coordinate activities of a program throughout the Organization.

Level of Authority: Performs duties independently and in conjunction with a team, setting priorities and scheduling own work in accordance with the program director, and organizational policies and procedures.

Work Environment: Work is performed in a complex setting both inside, and outside of the office, with frequent adjustments and the need to deal with a diversity of people and tasks. Position may require visits to internal or external collaborators, participants, and other partners, in addition to travel to meetings, outreach or training locations, some of which may include overnight trips.

The SEIU UHW-WEST & Joint Employer Education Fund has a position available for a Program Coordinator to coordinate outreach activities. It is a full-time, exempt position located in either the Oakland or Los Angeles office and reporting to the Director of Outreach and Communication.

The Program Coordinator will have responsibility for developing and implementing Outreach goals and activities. S/he will work with Ed Fund and Union staff; this will include outreach planning and scheduling, data collection and reporting. Other responsibilities include, daily/weekly check in’s with Outreach staff and director; scheduling, preparing, and leading team meetings, developing goals, identifying team development skills and accountability measures in coordination with the director for the team.

He or she assures the accuracy and completeness of data collected for the program, including data pertaining to eligibility and selection, employer utilization, collecting and reviewing data for monthly and annual program reports. This position will make presentations to participants, project partners, or other audiences as needed.


  • Bachelor’s degree, with a minimum of 2 years’ experience planning and implementing educational or training programs.
  • Good organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to effectively work independently and as a team member.
  • Proficiency in the use of basic Microsoft Office environment (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Skills in design for flyers, hand-outs, and power point presentations preferred.
  • Experience within a union and/or healthcare environment preferred.
  • Bi-lingual fluency in Spanish and English preferred.
  • Must be committed to working within a labor-management partnership environment.
  • Flexibility regarding schedule and assignments.
  • Professional demeanor with ability to create rapport among a wide variety of members and partners.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License, the use of a vehicle, and maintain an appropriate level of car insurance.
