Membership Associate

Based in New York City, NY


We're Hiring a Membership Associate.

The Membership Associate manages member dues, Guild programing and communications with members and prospective members. The Associate is responsible for maintaining our database, processing union dues and per caps and supporting member activities. The person in this position will report directly to the Director of Communications and Membership and will be charged with helping nurture a dedicated membership that feels welcome, included, and a vibrant sense of participation in the Guild and its activities. This is a full-time, union-covered position, with competitive pay and generous benefits.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that union dues and per caps are paid and processed on a timely basis.
  • Maintain complete contact information for our entire membership in our database.
  • Utilize our database to track and produce reports concerning participation in union activities.
  • Through actively tracking when members terminate and retire from our shops, the Associate will identify and connect with potential associate members and make them aware of program offerings, and be available to connect them to activities and groups in which they express interest.
  • In consultation with the Director, work to encourage members to expand their engagement by regular forms of outreach (calls and emails), and promote volunteer opportunities, particularly with the Membership Development Committee. Maintain regular communication with our activists and new leaders to determine opportunities for member engagement.
  • Assist in planning and implementing Guild events
  • Answer basic questions about our associate membership program, which includes handling first step issues that arise, specifically with benefits package.
  • Track the progress/numbers of interested newcomers transitioning to active associate membership.
  • Under direction of Director, update development materials for newcomer packets.
  • Assist in communications as needed, including drafting content, social media and member-targeted emails
  • Assist in membership mailings and provide support for staff as needed.
  • Meet regularly with Director, attend bi-monthly staff meetings and bi-monthly meetings with President.
  • Occasionally be able to work nights

All candidates must possess these qualities:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Three years of administrative professional experience
  • Excellent administrator and problem solver with strong organizational skills and the capacity to do accurate, detailed record keeping
  • Computer savvy individual who has a strong working knowledge with office technologies, such as MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Applicant needs to be quick study in electronic mail and calendaring systems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work successfully with diverse groups.
  • A team player with outstanding communication and listening skills who enjoys lots of interactions with people.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, particularly writing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; detailed self-starter with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively, flexible to change and demonstrated natural instinct for cooperative communication.
  • Demonstrated ability in planning and organizing work activities, thoroughness and accuracy in data management, and oral and written communications.
  • Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
