Local 802 is the largest local union of professional musicians in the world with a jurisdiction covering New York City, Sullivan, Nassau, and Suffolk counties, NY and parts of southwestern Connecticut. The Electronic Media Services Supervisor oversees a full staff of administrative assistants, business representatives, contract clerks and checks clerks/cashiers.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Oversee a running list of grievances, projects, outstanding payments, and late penalty claims.
  • Analyze wage and filing trends to assess the state of various recording industries and determines where to focus ongoing outreach and support.
  • Liaise with the Federation on any instances which might be grey areas in the contract, as well as for the purposes of executing signatory letters of agreement for otherwise non-covered projects.
  • Participate in collective bargaining negotiations for national contracts on behalf of Local 802, in conjunction with officers.
  • Oversee processes for upcoming projects, including the acquisition of a signatory letter of agreement, budget specifics, other paperwork, and bond deposits, if necessary, in the case of isolated ventures.
  • Liaise with the Organizing Department with outreach to musicians, especially with regards to house bands working under the Live Television Agreement.
  • Liaise with Finance and IT Department regarding the administration of the Local 802 Escrow Account. Moving forward, we will liaise with these departments regarding work dues collection through KMR as well.
  • Liaise with the Pension Fund and Health Benefits Fund on any issues that need addressing, including but not limited to signatory document acquisition and grievances for unpaid benefits.
  • Handle payroll approval for the department, including weekly confirmation of time clock records, vacation and time off requests, etc.

Bachelor’s degree in a field that demonstrates fluency with numbers and with contract analysis.

  • 1+ years of supervisory experience.
  • Ability to work with musicians, contractors, and employers on all questions that may come up regarding upcoming projects as well as already recorded work, residual and back-end payments, grievances and other outstanding requests for payment, etc.
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with Local 802 and AFM Recording contracts preferred.
  • Background and experience with entertainment unions preferred.
