Staff Accountant

Job Summary
Professional Staff Congress (PSC)-City University of New York (CUNY) Welfare Fund provides benefits supplemental to the basic health insurance of the New York City Health Benefits Program for both unionized professional employees and CUNY managers. Under the direction of the Executive Director and Director of Financial Services, the Staff Accountant will be responsible for the implementation of management goals, policies, processes and procedures to ensure the accurate and timely process of all accounting related functions.

General Accountabilities

  • Prepares various monthly invoices.
  • Prepares weekly cash receipts and updates accounts receivable ledger.
  • Process member refunds.
  • Issue weekly payments for benefit and operational expenses.
  • Maintain various operations spreadsheets for management.
  • Assisting in year-end audit and preparation of governmental filings.
  • Performing various accounting duties and Specialty reporting.
  • Assist in the Administration of member enrollments.

Job Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree
  • Experience: Over 3 years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience, CPA experience a plus.
  • Must have expert level Excel skills with the ability to create complex spreadsheets to analyze and audit data.
  • Experience with Taft-Hartley entity or equivalent a must.
  • Experience with Public Sector/City Agencies a plus.
  • Proficient with accounting software.
  • Familiarity with performing queries with Alpha database or equivalent.
