Organizing Director

Based in Brooklyn, NY


UFCW Local 2013 is a union of 14,000 members working in food manufacturing, warehousing, and health care in the New York City metropolitan area. Our Brooklyn-based union represents a majority immigrant workforce that is the backbone of the city. We are committed to improving the lives of working people.

Major Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop and see to fruition new external organizing campaigns for the Local Union.
  • Train and develop Organizers and worker committees to execute organizing campaigns successfully.
  • Establish goals and standards, conduct performance reviews and make appropriate recommendations regarding retention.
  • Maintain tracking, reporting and analysis on all campaigns.
  • Articulate the union’s vision, motivating and challenging workers by recruiting and developing worker committees and worker leadership
  • Plan and execute worker meetings and trainings.
  • Perform related work as required.

Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years of organizing experience, with a track record of leading successful external union organizing campaigns
  • 2-4 years’ experience managing and leading teams, including training and directly supervising individuals.
  • Advanced ability to research, analyze data, and make logical conclusions thinking strategically.
  • Excellent organizational and prioritizing skills showing flexibility as needed; adept at dealing with conflicting/changing priorities
  • Comfort working with a diverse set of people
  • Commitment to fight for justice and worker rights
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to lead contract negotiations desired
  • Bilingual Spanish (and/or other languages) desired / plus
  • Ability to work independently, under pressure, in a fast-paced work environment, with multiple priorities and critical deadlines
  • In depth knowledge of relevant labor laws such as NLRA, FMLA, ADA, Workers Compensation, etc.
  • Willingness to work long, irregular hours and travel extensively as needed
  • Valid driver’s license – A MUST
