Texas Pension Coalition Coordinator

The Texas Pension Coalition through Texas AFL-CIO and in conjunction with allied unions is seeking a Coalition Coordinator to protect and promote defined benefit pensions in Texas, formalize and broaden our coalition and expand our communications reach.

Job Description
Responsibilities

  • Help coordinate and support the work of partner unions and engage rank-and-file members in the coalition around pension issues.
  • Develop a proactive and rapid response communications plan to make a powerful case to protect retirement security, including drafting and placing letters to the editor, op-eds and emails to our supporters.
  • Create and manage the coalition’s social media and digital program, including developing and executing digital ad buys.
  • Build relationships with media to position the coalition as a trusted source on pension issues.
  • Monitor and keep members of the coalition apprised of developments in pension issues and news from across the state.
  • Set up forums around the state with labor unions and allied organizations to grow our supporter lists and identify leaders
  • Maintain and grow database of supporters and activists.
  • Organizing new leaders into grass-roots spokespeople around the state.
  • Maintain regularly scheduled communication with NPPC staff and leadership.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • The coordinator is expected to have the following background:
  • Bachelor’s degree or combination of education and labor leadership experience.
  • At least 2-5 years of non-profit, campaign or labor communications experience.
  • The coordinator is also expected to be able to do the following:
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage coalition partners and build consensus
  • Provide own transportation to events around the state. Mileage and other basic travel reimbursements is payable for all travel exceeding 50 miles from home base.
  • Maintain a coalition budget and always seek the lowest-cost options for all programming and travel costs.
  • Work with leaders with varying interests to build consensus

Other terms:

  • Salary commensurate with experience per year plus generous health, dental and vision insurance.
  • Position is based in Austin, Texas.
