Campaign Lead

Based in Berkeley, CA

1-year contract

UPTE, CWA Local 9119 is a member run, statewide union representing 16,000 University of California technical, research, and health care professionals.

The Campaign Lead position will focus on organizing Information Technology workers who are in various stages of joining an existing bargaining unit across the University of California.

The responsibilities of this position will include but not be limited to signing up workers to become union members, identifying leaders, assessment of leaders, creating assignments for leaders and organizing them into committees per each campus and also as an entire work title within the University of California. The workload will also entail organizing side by side with member leaders to provide in field skill training. The position will be based out of the Berkeley office and there will be regular travel throughout the state since the workers represented are at various University of California campuses.

Minimum requirements:

  • 3 years of experience as a field organizer
  • Potential applicants should have demonstrated success in member-based field organizing and mobilization.


  • 1 year of experience as a lead organizer
  • Experience organizing similar professional/white collar workers
  • In-depth understanding of the laws, workplace rules, contracts and trends related
  • to organizing and representing higher education employees in California;
  • Experience organizing non-represented workers

General Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education and/or work experience demonstrating strong strategic
  • and analytical abilities;
  • Self-motivated and ability to work independently;
  • Strong strategy and analytic skills;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheet, database and
  • email applications
  • Valid automobile driver’s license, willingness to travel
