Director, Information Systems

Based in San Jose, CA

CSEA is recruiting a Director to manage our Information Systems Department. The ideal person for this position understands and anticipates our changing technology requirements.

The Director evaluates our technology needs and plans and manages their transition as hardware, applications and systems evolve.

The Director researches new products, evaluates innovations in technology and their benefit to CSEA, and creates a culture of continuous improvement and innovation. The IS Department includes 14 supervisory and technical staff.

CSEA is a public employee union representing over 240,000 classified school employees who work in 750 school districts and community colleges in California. We are dedicated to protecting the rights of classified school employees, expanding benefits, pensions, protections and improving the lives of the members and the students they serve. We are headquartered in San Jose, CA. The position is open because of retirement.

Examples of duties:

  • Manages budgets for statewide technology spending, including equipment, projects, and upgrades.
  • Directs and supports new services to meet the Association's needs.
  • Partners with stakeholders to address outdated processes and technology.
  • Leads, coaches and manages IS staff.
  • Writes, manages policies and procedures.
  • Manages vendors and contracts.
  • Drives operational excellence to ensure reliable infrastructure and superior customer service.
  • Oversees enterprise systems: CSEA’s membership information, financial, website content management, data warehouse, and cloud-based services.
  • Oversees infrastructure: WAN/LAN/internet, virtual and physical servers, printers, security, and disaster/recovery/backup procedures.
  • Manages telecommunications: VoIP, call center, video conference, mobility systems.
  • Manages help desk support, client hardware/software, documentation and technical training.
  • Develops technology plans for member recruitment and political campaigns.
  • Provides technology resources for special projects and events, including large conferences.

The ideal candidate will have the following background:

  • 6 years’ IS and management experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree.

Knowledge of

  • Enterprise applications (e.g. member-relationship management, financial), cloud-based services (e.g. Office 365, payroll, HR, expense report)
  • Databases, integration of related systems, data integrity principles and tools.
  • Video conferencing, collaboration, webinar, and telecommunications technologies.
  • IT infrastructure, networks, help desk support, security, and disaster/recovery.
  • Web content management systems and web applications.
  • Project management and planning.
  • Systems and workflow analysis, process improvement.
  • Software development.

Ability to:
