Texas State Employees Union, CWA Local 6186

Texas State Employees Union, CWA Local 6186

Based in Austin or Houston, TX

Texas State Employees Union needs Organizers. We are a nationally known, non-collective bargaining, wall-to-wall organizing campaign for state agency and university employees. We are a statewide local of the Communications Workers of America with 10,000 members.

TSEU's program emphasizes the building of a grassroots movement that has the power to win a decent standard of living and fair treatment on the job for state employees, and quality public services for the people of Texas. We believe in the Labor Movement as a movement for social justice; one that unites and empowers workers by defeating racism, sexism, homophobia, and other forces that divide us; and that is fueled by grassroots, bottom-up activism.

TSEU organizers have the skills and dedication to make this program a reality. Key responsibilities include growing the membership; facilitating the development of on-the-job leaders and committees; and implementing a program of worker empowerment and defense of public services. Requirements include willingness to learn, flexibility, commitment to the Labor Movement and to social justice and the ability to work with diverse people. This position requires travel.  Spanish speaking ability a plus.

TSEU apprentice organizers start at $44,000 per year. Benefits include full family health care (costs shared by TSEU and employee) and defined benefit pension plan. Women and people of color are encouraged to apply. These positions will work out of our Austin or Houston office locations.
