We are looking for talented and creative individuals to fill research, organizing and lead organizing positions across the state of California.

The Communications Specialist is responsible for providing support to the Communications Department in key areas including Media Relations, Social Media and General support of various department program goals

Primary Responsibilities:

The Communications Specialist will be responsible to provide support to the Communications Department in key areas including but not limited to:

  • Media Relations
  • Maintaining/developing the media database for targeted reporters throughout the state
  • Sending out press releases/media advisories
  • Assisting in pitching media on events as needed
  • Providing follow-up to media as needed
  • Assisting in developing media materials
  • Conducting research to support media pitches and outreach
  • Providing support in preparing designated spokespersons to interact with media
  • Tracking media placements
  • Archiving stories
  • Researching stories of interest based on issues significant to the Local
  • Handling logistics for media events (including planning and implementation)

Social Media

  • Conducting research as needed to extend our social media database
  • Assisting in updating SEIU Local 2015 website/Facebook/Twitter page as needed

General Support

  • Tracking requests from other Local 2015 departments and ensure timely delivery of requested services/products
  • Interacting with vendors as needed for quote requests and production tracking
  • Working with the Communications Confidential Admin to ensure all back-up for projects is obtained for accounting
  • Receiving and coordinating translation and interpretation requests as needed
  • Assisting in managing Local 2015 give-a-ways and storage room
  • Providing production support for Local 2015 events
  • Assisting in managing/archiving photos, video and other content created by the department


  • Candidates must be well organized and able to multitask.
  • Must be proficient with Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Familiarity with graphic design programs and have a media relations / social media background preferred.

Physical Requirements:
Work is generally performed in an office setting. However, duties and function may require performing work in the field with members and outside constituents. Some irregular hours required. Intermittent travel may be required.

Scope and Nature of Supervision:
The Communications Specialist reports directly to the Communications Director or designee.
