Workers’ Safety and Health Trainer
(temporary; part time)

The Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union, UFCW, represents workers throughout much of the United States. RWDSU members work in a wide variety of occupations that range from food processing to retail to manufacturing to service and health care.

RWDSU’s Health and Safety Department is seeking a Workers’ Safety and Health Trainer. The position is 20-hours per week; although it is temporary, it has the potential to become long-term. The job might require working evenings and some weekends.


  • At least 4 years of training in Occupational Safety and Health or in a related field
  • Experience in facilitating trainings for young and adult learners, and has the ability to use varying teaching methods
  • Understands the issues retail, healthcare workers face
  • Know how to develop/modify educational material
  • Can deal with government grants (writing and reporting)


  • Coordinate training with locals and community organizations
  • Facilitate trainings for workers on health and safety issues for the retail and health-care industry, and other retail-related industries
  • Create and Develop Training Material as needed
  • Provide reports and other documentation necessary for the grantor
  • Travel to workplaces or locals in the NYC area, Long Island and NY state.


  • Able to provide certification trainings (such as OSHA 10 Outreach Trainings)
  • Can speak another language other than English
  • Organizing experience for labor/social justice

The trainer will spend most of its time developing training materials, coordinating and facilitating trainings for workers, grant reporting and will report back to the Director of Health and Safety.
