WIN Radio Reporter

Job Description

Working closely with the Metro Washington Labor Council, the reporter will cover stories as assigned by Workers Independent News. The work will have a dual focus - the  grassroots activities  of the DC labor  movement locally,  as well as national Workers Independent News radio stories.

The reporter will record interviews with key people in the stories, digitally extract brief radio “actualities” from the interviews, write news scripts locating the story within the  political/labor/economic context; sometimes record the finished story for radio broadcast, and  if possible  take pictures  of the event.

The material will be sent to the Metro Washington Labor Council, and also to WIN for editing and possible use on the respective websites of the organizations and for broadcast locally and nationally.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Experience using digital recording equipment in a news setting
  • Experience with the electronic media- uploading, down loading and transmission
  • Radio news experience; commercial radio-quality voice
                           

Desirable: Bilingual; knowledge of the labor movement

Employer: The reporter will be employed on a per story basis by Workers Independent News. The  job may evolve into a .5 FTE as broadcast opportunities increase. Space will be available to the reporter at the Metro Washington Labor Council, 888 16th ST NW, Suite 520; the reporter will have access to a desk, phone, e-mail and other support.
