GRAPHIC DESIGNER/ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS

The Amalgamated Transit Union has an immediate opening for the position of Graphic Designer/Assistant Director of Communications. The ATU is seeking an outgoing, dependable, highly motivated self-starter to translate the priorities and outlook of the ATU into compelling print and internet publications under the direction of the Communications Director. Production items will include the ATU’s bi-monthly international magazine (print and web editions), the ATU website, online video, newsletters brochures, convention books, and other published or electronically posted materials as assigned.

General Duties:

• Create attractive layouts with text, images and artwork using the Mac version of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Flash, Acrobat, etc.) for bi-monthly magazine, website, convention materials, flyers, brochures, etc.
• Prepare files for vendor printing, and oversee print production from layout and design through publication of the material.
• Maintain an up-to date website. Place new and updated content on the site daily using a proprietary content management system (CMS).
• Maintain and place content on social networking and social media sites
• Prepare still images and video in a variety of formats for print publication and posting on the internet, and distribution.
• Manage multiple long and short term projects from start to finish. Balance competing priorities and requirements.
• Maintain a high degree of quality control through self-proofing and printer proof review.
• Support consistency of product and service expectations in the Union.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years graphic design experience
• Exceptional Mac desktop publishing skills; strong computer skills, Microsoft Office and Power Point
• Ability to use Photoshop to improve appearance of submitted images
• Knowledge of Adobe Dreamweaver, video editing software, and .html code helpful
• Ability to be flexible, to multitask and to work under pressure
• Prior experience with unions helpful but not required
