STRATEGIC RESEARCHER/CAMPAIGNER

The Amalgamated Transit Union, the largest labor organization representing transit workers in the United States and Canada, is seeking a strategic researcher/campaigner to join a new Strategic Campaigns Department supporting ATU organizing and bargaining.

Strategic Researcher/Campaigner will be responsible for:

  • Compiling, analyzing, and summarizing data on industry sectors, firms, individuals and issues in support of campaigns,
  • Analyzing financial, legal and regulatory aspects of transit and related industries
  • Performing market analysis of targeted industry sectors
  • Synthesizing data from various team members and external sources into clear and concise reports appropriate for use by nonspecialists
  • Working with the Organizing Department to develop and execute campaign strategy
  • Working with Communications staff to draft, edit and produce campaign materials

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Competence in a variety of research methods and fields (personal interviews and computer-based, financial and policy, etc)
  • Ability to work independently under tight deadlines, sometimes for long and irregular hours as campaigns require
  • Successful cooperation with labor union officers and staff in pursuit of union goals
  • Sound quantitative skills
  • A clear writing style
  • An evident commitment to the goals of the labor movement

Experience in transportation industry and/or as a union member-activist not required, but a definite plus.
