JUNIOR RESEARCHER
Job Announcement: Junior Researcher
SEIU United Long Term Care Workers union, a statewide labor organization
representing over 176,000 long-term care workers in California, is looking for highly
motivated and skilled individuals seeking to contribute to building a strong and vibrant

Location: Opening Northern California
Responsibilities Include:
• Research, strategize, and implement plans around specific issues/campaigns,
including public outreach materials, legal/regulatory complaints or other action tools.
• Gather, analyze and logically organize information from workers, employers,
government agencies and other sources for use in organizing, policy, corporate
or budget-related campaigns.
• The researcher may also be called upon to assist in general communications,
political, media and public relations projects.
Qualifications:
• Must be able to use a wide variety of research methods and information
sources including online databases, print information, interviews, and
investigation and original records.
• Must be familiar with basic financial concepts and/or analysis, and able to
perform budget analysis at local, county, state and federal levels.
• Must possess excellent oral, writing and grammar skills in English.
• Must be able to communicate effectively and sympathetically with a diverse
group and range of men and women from all classes, races, nationalities,
ethnic groups, ages, disabilities, and sexual preferences.
• Must be a self-starter who is capable of working independently for periods of
time without close supervision, learning quickly, handling tight deadlines and
multiple projects and who is a clear, creative, and strategic thinker.
• Must be a team player that is capable of working well in groups in high-stress
situations.
• Must demonstrate a strong commitment to labor/social justice issues with
significant work or volunteer experience
• Must be computer literate. Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint.
• Must have earned a B.A. or B.S. degree in Economics, Business,
Communications, Public Affairs or another related Field; training or experience in
corporate, financial and/or policy research, good computer skills.
• The following is not required but will be considered favorably: Fluency in a
second language (Spanish, Armenian, Chinese, etc) Post-secondary education
Experience with Quark Express, Illustrator, Photoshop Experience in the labor
movement, politics or other activist settings Knowledge ofthe long term care
industry.
Candidates must have a commitment to progressive social change and activist
experience; demonstrated research skills, excellent writing and speaking ability,
familiarity with communications and research tools and skills; and all ability to work
well under tight deadlines and in a team environment. People of color and women
